Potholing Service

An electric utility worker is using a radio frequency detector to determine a buried power line location and mark it with spray paint and a red flag. Dig Fearlessly

If you need to dig holes near underground utilities or pipes – or worse, need to dig where you think underground utilities may be – GC Infrastructure’s hydrovac potholing approach will allow you to do so without fear of damage. We do so while maintaining full safety and integrity of established structures.

How Does Hydrovac Potholing Work

First, we distinguish where any established underground utilities are located. Next, we utilize our hydrovac truck to begin the dig, creating a pothole via a high-pressure water vacuum tube. We then continue to excavate until we locate the utility or pipe. However, if the exact location of an underground structure is not known, we may need to conduct window trenching. Window trenching safely creates a “window” into the ground, so that we can determine any utilities which pass through that span.

Why We Do It

The flexibility and safety measures involved in potholing and window trenching offers a fast, precise, and safe method of creating anchor points for new structures – without compromising established structures. The positives provided by this method can prove both cost-effective and much safer than traditional digging methods. For instance, you drastically reduce the risk of cutting into or compromising an electrical line. Yet while doing so you still drastically reduce the amount of soil displaced and eroded, creating a safer environment overall.
